GoPro CEO Nick Woodman has announced and introduced a future product. The GoPro Virtual Reality Drone will have six cameras in a spherical array. The mount will be able to accommodate 6 Hero 4 cameras all pointing in different directions. Recording in high resolution it is expected for the cameras to capture 3 dimensional images and videos. Similar results can be viewed on products like the Google Cardboard and Microsoft HoloLens. It will also be viewed on your smartphones or PC using a 360 applications like YouTube 360 degrees.
Woodman said they have been experimenting with virtual reality for some time now. He admits that the six cameras on a single product won’t have a mass adoption at first but will most likely be targeting the professional market.
“It’s incredible to see our world from new perspectives. It’s a real ‘Oh my God’ moment,” said Woodman. “We did that with our GoPro cameras, and we see a similar opportunity in the quadcopter market. It’s something that’s in our DNA, and we are excited about it across the company.”
